This site was born out of a recent conversation following the abrupt end to this year’s General Assembly session. The end was disappointing both for the practical and legal effects of the decision and the manner in which it happened.
Rhode Island is left without a new budget for the 2018 fiscal year. Even though Senate President Dominick Ruggerio has offered to sit down with House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to work out the differences, Speaker Mattiello has continued to shirk the offer and demands that the Senate pass the House version of the budget without any further discussion.
It is our belief that it is the House which should reconvene and hear the Senate’s one amendment to the budget, which is fiscally responsible and necessary given the state of affairs in Rhode Island. Given that, we will endeavor to get a response from each member of the House of Representatives on whether or not they support Speaker Mattiello calling the House back into session to consider the budget sent to them by the Senate and other bills which have suffered due to the impasse.
As time goes on, we will utilize this site to get direct responses from senators and representatives on other issues which may be of great importance, such as the potential bond issue for a new PawSox stadium.
Please share the site, spread the word, and let’s stay on our representatives to do their jobs!
